Opel is going back to the future by giving the original Manta A an electric heart to keep up with the times. Sadly only a one-off project, the ElektroMOD revives the spirit of the 1970s sports coupe while eschewing the four-cylinder petrol engine for a rear-mounted electric motor. With 145 bhp (108 kilowatts) and 188 pound-feet (255 Newton-metres) of torque on tap, it's the most powerful first.

An all-new car, battery-powered and likely to have SUV-esque styling, is due to arrive in 2025 wearing the Manta name. In the meantime, Opel has dipped into its back catalogue and electrified an original Manta coupé to remind us of a time when the Opel lightning bolt and Vauxhall griffin were applied to cars other than humble family hatchbacks.
